Dr. Ansuya Desai, M.D.
Psychiatrist

 

Cedar Crest Hospital and RTC welcomes back Ansuya Desai, MD, Child/Adolescent and General Psychiatrist, to Belton, TX as Medical Director.

 

Dr. Desai has more than 30 years of experience in the medical field. She spent more than 20 years as a volunteer faculty member at ASH and had received the Best Teacher of the Year award. Dr. Desai also served on over six committees at the state hospital. She has practiced medicine in various parts of the nation to advance her knowledge, skills and expertise. She practiced five years of family medicine in India and then immigrated to the United States in 1977. She completed her psychiatry 1st year at Loyola University in Chicago in collaboration with Veterans Hospital. Her residency was completed in psychiatry at Austin State Hospital. She did electives in child & adolescent psychiatry.


Dr. Desai resides in Round Rock with her husband. She has two daughters. One is a practicing attorney in Austin and the other is pursuing second masters in international relations in Washington DC.

Dr. Desai enjoys gardening, painting and reading.

 

 

 

Ramil Baratang, M.D.
Psychiatrist
 


Dr. Ramil Baratang joined Cedar Crest Clinic in 2005.

Internship: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Philippines, 1992
Residency: General Psychiatry, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas 1996
Fellowship: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas 1998

 

Dr. Baratang has a special interest in ADHD, pervasive developmental disorders/autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation, and psychopharmacology in children.

 

 

 

Taghi Shafie, M.D.
Psychiatrist


Dr. Taghi Shafie received his medical degree in 1973 from the University of Isfahan, Iran, followed by completion of a one-year psychiatry residency through the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and a second year of residency in neurology through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After 28 years of professional experience in Houston, he has joined Cedar Crest Clinic in Killeen, Texas, to provide outpatient services to the Central Texas community.

 

 

 

Everett Lynn Warthan, M.D.
Physician


Dr. Everett Warthan joined Cedar Crest in 2003. He received his MD from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed training and certified in family practice in Austin, Texas. He has past experience in emergency medicine, chemical dependency and primary care. Since joining Cedar Crest, Dr. Warthan has been providing primary care and physical evaluations on all the hospital & RTC admissions.

He and his wife live just outside of Belton, Texas.

 

 

 

Scot D. Engel, Psy.D
Psychologist


Scot D. Engel Psy.D, clinical psychologist, joined the Cedar Crest Clinic in 2004. Dr. Engel completed his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management from Michigan State University. He went on to receive his Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology- Chicago Campus. Dr. Engel completed his American Psychological Associated approved internship and post-doctoral training at the Allendale Association/ Bradley Counseling Center in Lake Villa Illinois.


Dr. Engel, oversees the Adolescent Boys Residential Treatment Program. He provides individual and group psychotherapy from a cognitive behavioral reality based perspective. The treatment program mission is to Reclaim, Restore, and Redirect at risk boys. Dr. Engel also provides outpatient psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. He resides in the Austin area and is married with two children. He may not be a native Texan, but as the bumper sticker highlights, he got here as soon as he could.

 

 

 

Kerri Tom, Psy.D.
Psychologist


Dr. Kerri Tom joined Cedar Crest in 2008. She graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She also attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, where she completed her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology. After moving to Texas, she attended the Texas School of Professional Psychology in Dallas, where she completed her Doctorate of Psychology. Dr. Tom completed her internship at Central Washington University in Washington state. She enjoys working with adolescent populations and began doing so in 1998.


Dr. Tom resides in Waxahachie with her husband. She enjoys the outdoors, gardening, arts and crafts, and volunteering as a mentor for incarcerated adolescents.

 


 

 

Paul T. Herndon, MD
Child/Adolescent  General Psychiatry

 

Dr. Herndon recently joined our team at BCA. Dr Herndon completed undergraduate work  from both Texas A&M University and the University of Texas-Permian Basin. Dr. Herndon attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed his residency in psychiatry at West Virginia University and a Child/Adolescent fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center.

 

Dr. Herndon has experience in outpatient clinical practice, intense in-patient care, residential treatment, and served as the medical director for the NeuroAssessment Centre, in Monument, Colorado.

 

Dr. Herndon currently resides in Midland, Texas.
