Mark E. Blair, Medical Director

Dr. Karen Brooks
Medical Director

A psychiatrist with seven years experience in the Central Texas area, Dr. Karen Brooks is the Medical Director for Cedar Crest Hospital and Residential Treatment Center. Brooks joined Cedar Crest following practice with Austin Diagnostic Clinic and Seton Shoal Creek Hospital in Austin and dual work in private practice and as a staff psychiatrist with the Texas School for the Deaf. She is certified in both psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Brooks subsequently earned her medical degree from the Texas Health Sciences Center School of Medicine at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She completed a residency in adult psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, both at Scott & White Memorial Hospital.

Ramil Baratang, M.D.

Dr. Ramil Baratang joined Cedar Crest Clinic in 2005. Medical School: University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Philippines, 1991 Internship: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Philippines, 1992 Residency: General Psychiatry, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas 1996 Fellowship: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas 1998 Dr. Baratang has a special interest in ADHD, pervasive developmental disorders/autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation, and psychopharmacology in children.

Carmen Z. Harlan, M.D.

Taghi Shafie, M.D.

Dr. Taghi Shafie received his medical degree in 1973 from the University of Isfahan, Iran, followed by completion of a one-year psychiatry residency through the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and a second year of residency in neurology through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After 28 years of professional experience in Houston, he has joined Cedar Crest Clinic in Killeen, Texas, to provide outpatient services to the Central Texas community.

Azeem Gureshi, M.D.

Everett Lynn Warthan, M.D.

Dr. Everett Warthan joined Cedar Crest in 2003. He received his MD from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed training and certified in family practice in Austin, Texas. He has past experience in emergency medicine, chemical dependency and primary care. Since joining Cedar Crest, Dr. Warthan has been providing primary care and physical evaluations on all the hospital & RTC admissions. He and his wife live just outside of Belton, Texas.
