Cedar Crest: Services and Programs - Education
The
on-site school located at Cedar Crest is designed specifically for at
risk youth whose emotional problems interfere with their ability to succeed
academically. Cedar Crest School focuses on the process of relationship
development. As students build relationships through interaction in
the school community they improve academically.
Cedar Crest School offers the Texas K-12 required foundation
curriculum that includes English language arts, mathematics, science,
and social studies. In addition, the school offers the required enrichment
program which includes health, physical education, fine arts, economics
and technology applications.
Students are instructed at their own level of functioning
and every effort is made to increase the abilities of those students
who are functioning below grade level. All eligible students will be evaluated
using the Texas
state assessments.
Cedar Crest staff uses the fine arts as a vehicle for
expression and learning. Student strengths in dance, music, and art are
recognized and encouraged. Opportunities are given for performance. All
students are encouraged to use writing as a way to express their ideas
and feelings.
Cedar Crest teachers are highly qualified and special
education certified. All school instructors are dually trained in learning
theories and in working with "at risk" youth with severe emotional and
behavioral problems. Cedar Crest School is accredited by the Texas Education
Agency.
