Cedar Crest: Services and Programs - Trauma Recovery Inpatient Program (TRIP)
Cedar
Crest's Trauma Recovery In-patient Program addresses the devastating effects on mental health and behavioral
functioning that can result from various forms of child abuse and neglect.
Although some abused children do not develop later difficulties, those
who do often display psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression,
emotional numbing, eating disorders, nightmares, attachment disruptions,
disassociation and other physical health issues. Behavioral problems
may also manifest, including violence, aggression, sexualized behaviors,
substance abuse and pregnancy.
TRIP's treatment professionals embrace a research-based, clinically sound program
that operates under the assumption that the effects of child abuse can be extremely
debilitating, but are not permanent. The program's staff and therapists provide
a nurturing, supportive environment that teaches emotional and behavioral management,
and helps the children obtain mastery and control over their futures.
Trauma Recovery In-patient Program is currently designed for adolescents between the ages of 12 and
17, who are experiencing emotional and/or behavioral disturbances related to
abuse. It is based on a six-month treatment model, but lengths of stay vary depending
upon the individual's specific needs. The TRIP team is supervised by a licensed
psychologist, and treatment team members consist of therapists and staff who
are comprehensively trained in the care and treatment of sexually abused adolescents.
Other team members include a physician, psychiatrist, teachers and nurses, all
of whom work together with the licensed psychologist.
