Dual Diagnosis
Cedar Crest's Residential Treatment Program specializes in providing both intensive short-term and longer-term treatment for children and adolescents who have failed to respond effectively in previous placements, as well as those who have completed acute care inpatient programs and require additional inpatient treatment in a 24-hour therapeutic environment.
Males and females, ages 5-17
Treatment begins with an assessment. Under the direction of a child/adolescent psychiatrist, a multidisciplinary treatment team evaluates each patient and develops a special treatment plan that addresses the patient's needs. The team includes psychologists, social workers, activity/ recreational therapists, family therapists, dieticians, psychiatric nurses and teachers.
ACADEMICS Even though psychiatric treatment is the primary emphasis, education is a critical part of each child's day. Children attend classes in an accredited school on the Belton campus. Each child receives a significant amount of individualized attention in order to achieve the academic goals set by the child's treatment team. Our specially trained teachers and aides use hands-on instruction and computers to foster enjoyable learning. The child's progress, grades, and recommendations are forwarded to his/her home school after discharge.
REFERRALS AND ADMISSION Referrals to our Residential Treatment Program can be made by family, physicians, school counselors, friends, mental health professionals, managed care organizations and other caring individuals or agencies. To consider a patient for admission, we request pertinent clinical information be available for review by our clinical team. Aftercare and discharge planning are initiated at the time of admission and reflect the continued therapeutic needs of the child. Inquiries and/or referrals may be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residential treatment services are covered by most major medical insurance carriers.
RECLAIM Chemical Dependency Treatment Program This program seeks to reclaim youth from their harmful dependency on alcohol and other mood altering drugs.
RECLAIM is an eclectic blend of research-based work designed to have sufficient variety to keep the attention of sophisticated adolescents - the adolescents with "street smarts" beyond their chronological age and stage of development. RECLAIM employs the work of various experts on cognitive behavioral therapy and relapse prevention, allowing our patients to develop their own personal recovery program to aid them upon their return to their regular lives.
STRUCTURED BOYS PROGRAM The Boys Structured Residential Program is designed for boys 12-17 who have experienced problems with family, peers and school that keep them from reaching their full potential. Focusing on the four components of Cedar Crest's Circle of Courage - Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity - the program educates young men and encourages them to take control of their future. A highly structured, safe, secure environment rewards positive behaviors and works to decrease negative behaviors and thought patterns.
